 Seaweed Workshops & Events

"I loved these workshops. Highly recommend for anyone interested in nature and/or creativity! A wonderful opportunity." Ruth

“I was scared of seaweed but am more confident about it now.”

“I didn’t know there were so many types - some are very pretty.”

Paper Making Workshops with Seaweed
A fun and relaxing introductory workshop where you will discover more about our remarkable seaweeds and make your own tactile and unique seaweed craft papers. The papers can be used for journals, mini-books, your own pressed seaweed collections, collage, greeting cards even 3D shapes.

You will learn how to make paper at home using common kitchen equipment and utensils. We will go through the process step by step from preparing raw materials and turning them into pulp, learning how to use a mould and deckle to make pieces of paper by pulling pulp through the vat, couching it, pressing it and drying it.

You will take home at least 10 pieces of varied A5 paper. They will still be damp and need to dry fully at home. You will be encouraged to play and experiment as you wish.  You will be able to produce different tinted papers decorated with fragments of seaweed for delicate speckled effects or embedded with scraps for a more textured dense finish.

I will explain various ways to make your paper water repellent so it can be used for painting, printing, embossing and stitching, how to strengthen it and how to use it in different ways from collage to stitching to 3D.
