Playing with Seaweed Paper

On a long dog-sit miles from the sea so a great opportunity to re-visit making paper with seaweed. A wet and messy process but so satisfying. As always a degree of unpredictability which makes the outcomes even more exciting when revealed.

It's mainly about form and colour. Used brown, red and green algae found washed up on beaches in Moray and Fife. Colours very subtle - and dried some in the sun which faded the brown from the dulse very quickly. Also added some snippets which held their colours when not dried in the sun. Used some very dry bladder wrack to emboss into the damp paper and left to dry.

Loving how the edges of the stacks of paper are like the edge of the waves as the tide comes in and goes out.  Finding that the leftover pulp can be used for abstract and landscape collage producing great texture.

More experiments to come!
