Lots of experiments are under way as I enter the final stages of my Masters Degree - final submission 16 August! Am weaving together themes of 'perpetual perishing' (Whitehead), the everyday aesthetic (Saito) and 'worlding' as described by Haraway (meaning how we can turn our attention to a certain experience, place or encounter and deepen our active engagement with materiality and context).
Testing the material to its limits and letting it speak with its own 'Mighty Voice' with minimum intervention presents all kinds of challenges. It responds to changes in moisture in the air very quickly. Even when apparently bone dry it can suddenly wilt. Sculpting with seaweed, weaving with seaweed and making jewellery...without taking away its essential 'seaweediness' - which can include a distinct aroma of the sea! Wind made filming with Mr Cat on Dysart beach tricky but the sun came out for a fun photo shoot at Broughty Ferry beach with my fabulous model, Ann, and creative assistant, Netti.
